Dear Scouts
This is my first time addressing in this blog and I must say that I'm proud of you guys so far. It has been 6 trainings so far and you guys are still holding strong, keep it up! As people say, 'The sucess of the group enabled the sucess of the leader, not the other way round.' It is very true, this NDP would not be sucessful to me without each and everyone of you, therefore i will try to make this journey a memorable and knowledgable one.
Well i do expect two very simple things from you guys, that is 'Committment' and 'Professionalism'. Committment in terms of taking interest in the event itself, motivated by telling yourself that you're able to learn new things every week, so its not just coming for footdrill that simple, so keep going on in this marathon untill the 9th of August. Each and everyone of you counts to the sucess of NDP'09. Rest if you must, but do not quit!
Similarly, we should act professionally in everything we do, as we all say 'Actions speak louder than words.' People remember more of what you do than what you say, therefore image and behaviour is very important as it shows how disciplined you are from first impression. Keep a constant reminder that how you look and act affects your own image, before every drill session or even in everyday life, be well groomed and neatly attired. If everybody were to take this effort to take note of their own attire and grooming, then the whole contingent will look fantastic! This cannot be achieved without upholding individual responsibility.
When some of you are standing on the parade square waiting for the next cue, some may day dream, others may be thinking of other stuffs, well, this time could be better maximised. When you all are on parade, try to observe around (not turning your heads of course), look at how the other contingents execute their drills, look at the Army contingent and from CCR onwards, the Colours Party and GOH Contingents will join in. Observe them! This is part of learning, people usually learn better through observations. As BG Tan wrote in the NDP website, he said NDP was not about NDP. To be honest, I feel that it is a learning journey for us, an extended one, for we will learn alot of things and see the deeper meaning of National Day.
I do hope to see more of your friends joining our NDP journey as we go on, do encourage them to join in, they won't regret after having the memorable experience. Liasons please encourage your people to visit the blog and facebook page often! Should you need any help in terms of academics or a listening ear, feel free to approach me. We all started off as sand particles, but as we get together and move on, we will become a sandcastle! ONE SINGAPORE SCOUTS CONTINGENT!
Alright guys, its only 87 days left as of today to NDP'09. Keep up the good work and I hope to see you guys and more of your friends in this NDP journey untill 9th of August! Together, we make our NDP'09 experience a memorable and good one!
Best wishes!
